We’re incredibly proud to share a major milestone for our partners at Tiki Wine & Vineyards, who have become the first vineyard and winery business in New Zealand to achieve Certified Regenerative status by A Greener World (AGW).
The independent global certification recognises Tiki’s commitment to regenerative viticulture – an approach that works with natural systems to improve soil health, increase biodiversity, strengthen water cycles and build greater resilience within the vineyard.
For Tiki, however, this isn’t a new direction. It’s an independently verified recognition of principles that have shaped the business for years.
As a Māori-owned, family-operated producer, Tiki is guided by kaitiakitanga – caring for and protecting the land and leaving it in better condition for generations to come. That philosophy has been embedded in the way Royce and Sue McKean and their team have approached their vineyards since the first vines were planted at Waiata Vineyard in North Canterbury.
Unlike sustainability claims that can be difficult to quantify, Certified Regenerative by AGW requires an independently audited regenerative plan, with progress measured and verified over time.
As Royce McKean, Founder and Managing Director of Tiki Wine & Vineyards, explains:
“We believe healthier soils and more resilient vineyards can support both better fruit and wine and a stronger future for winegrowing and the planet.”
The certification extends across Tiki’s regenerative journey and provides another powerful story behind the Tiki, Maui and Waiata wine brands – both here in New Zealand and internationally.
